Kamla

Nutritious, Fresh, Homemade Food Products

Kamla is a food processing initiative launched in 2015 by the SelfEmployed Women Association (SEWA) and Sewa Gram Mahila Haat (SGMH) to empower women chefs from rural areas. Kamla is proposing satiability of farmers, needy women, nutrition for food and go-green activities. Kamla aims to empower women with traditional activities in a natural manner. The main aims of Kamla are to help the farmers and food processors sustain their markets and livelihood. SEWA trained 200 Master Trainers with the goal of supporting 5,000 rural women through Kamla’s initiative.

The brand, Kamla, is named in honour of Dr. Kamla Chowdry, who generously donated a small piece of land in Bodakdev, Ahmedabad, where the initiative began. The tagline, “Nutritious Food for All,” reflects Kamla’s focus on reviving traditional cooking practices and offering healthy, seasonal food products to the community.

Environmental Commitment

At Kamla, we believe in promoting eco-friendly practices, supporting go-green activities like tree planting, and promoting sustainable livelihoods for farmers. Our approach ensures that we not only feed the community but also contribute to a healthier planet.

Our Mission

Kamla follows SEWA’s broader mission of providing full employment and self-reliance for women. This includes offering sustainable income opportunities, promoting self-sufficiency, and ensuring employment for its members. Through Kamla, we aim to reach 1 million customers, delivering nutritious food products that are hygienically prepared, ensuring food security for all.
In addition to promoting healthy eating, Kamla is also committed to environmental sustainability. We believe in preserving our planet by planting trees and supporting environmentally friendly agricultural practices.
