Kutchcraft Association

101 DWCRA groups of artisans and 61 savings and credit groups constitute the Kutchcraft Association in the western most desert district of Kutch. Registered in 1995, this association was formed to support local women in their efforts to preserve and promote their traditional craft skils. It also aims to assist them in marketing so that their skill becomes a continuous source of employment. Now women no longer have to depend on state-supported "relief work" (mainly digging and road construction work) in times of crises such as drought, for survival. Instead they embroider and market their own exquisite products, elimination middlemen and exploitative traders.
